From the time of Ngati Koata’s arrival in Te Tau Ihu and their establishment there through the tuku of Tutepourangi of the Kurahaupo tribes and of Te Putu and other Ngati Koata chiefs early in the century before last, Ngati Koata have exercised authority in Te Tau Ihu according to a system of customary law - tikanga - which embodies spiritual and temporal and other features of Maori culture and philosophy.

The board of Ngati Koata Trust are about to embark on a new strategic journey as they make preparations to receive their substantial treaty settlement from the Crown.

The board is seeking to appoint a well balanced General Manager who can strategise easily between commercial, social and cultural priorities.

You will be known for your values based leadership style and will be at ease in a variety of environments where you will demonstrate your sound diplomacy, negotiating and collaborative skills.

A background in managing investments at a strategic level in areas such as property or fishing quota would be of interest but more important will be your reputation for extracting acceptable financial returns in relatively challenging and complex industries. Proven experience in due diligence processes will be a key requirement.

You will have an appreciation for Te Ao Maori and if not already, you will have the ability to embrace Te Reo, Tikanga and key M¯aori values quickly.

A real people person with humility and proven credibility, you will be committed to developing a small management team whilst ensuring the aspirations of Iwi are fully achieved through executional excellence.
